WHAT WILL MY SESSION INVOLVE?
There is shelter available, but we will be outside for the majority of the session, whatever the weather! While the work is therapeutic, these are not therapy sessions. We will work through some breathing and awareness exercises and some gentle physical stretches, before undertaking specifically designed activities around and with the horses. There is no set agenda and what matters is your experience. The development is in the process rather than the completion of a task.
GETTING STARTED:
We'll chat initially over the phone so I can understand what you hope to gain from the sessions. I normally recommend one hour to one and a half hour sessions for children and young people under 18, and one and a half to two hour sessions for adults over 18. Sessions ideally take place once a week so that we can maintain and develop a consistent and productive working relationship. The length of the programme depends on the individual and what you would like to work on. I recommend a trial of three sessions so you can see if it feels right for you.
Where are you based?
We're on Moss Lane, in Over Tabley, which is between Mere and Knutsford.
How do I find you?
You can use either of the following postcodes:
Moss Lane, WA16 0PL or,
St Paul's Church, Chester Road, WA16 0PP
Is there any parking?
Yes, there is free parking available two minutes walk from the site. The car park is on Moss Lane, just opposite St Paul's Church which is on Chester Road.
What and who can I expect to see on the site?
The site consists of a field, stables, two horses and myself! It's rustic and private by design, so that the sessions take place in a calm, quiet, safe and secure space, with no distractions.
What do I wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting wet, muddy or furry! Please also wear suitable footwear such as wellies, walking boots or trainers.
Will I do any riding?
No. The sessions and interactions with the horses are all ground based.
Do I need to have had any experience with horses before?
No. Whether you've always loved horses, are absolutely terrified of them, or are completely indifferent to them, they will meet you as you are on the day.
How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on what you would like to gain from the sessions and what you hope to work through. Following the first session, I will develop a bespoke programme for you, focused on your requirements.
Do I need refreshments?
A hot or cold drink will be provided, and there are normally a few biscuits available! There are caffeine free and dairy free drink options.
What do I need to bring?
Sunscreen or umbrellas are provided, depending on the weather! You're welcome to bring your own refreshments if you prefer. A note pad and pen/pencil are useful but you can always use ours.
